The Crann0g (pictured to the right) a man made island constructed around 890 AD as a summer residence of the local royalty. Unfortuneately after a dispute with a Border Queen the Crannog was destroyed in 916 AD. A visitor Information centre has been constructed on the edge of the lake which provides a good vantage point of the island. The local wildlife is particularly diverse with otters being seen (you need to be up early and very lucky to se them) and water voles having been re-introduced and more frequently observed. A walk around the Lake can be taken (sometimes flooded in winter) starting from Llangorse common the path takes you past a bird hide sited below Tymawr Farm to Llangasty Church on the opposite side of the lake. Returning to Llangorse by the same route. Printable MAP OF ROUTE
